Morocco Reportedly Acquires Advanced Israeli Naval Drone for Anti-Submarine Warfare

Synthetic images showing sophisticated data interaction between a Hermes 900 drone (naval version) and a FREMM warship (possibly the frigate Mohammed VI, in service with the Royal Moroccan Navy) leave room for several interpretations. Has the Royal Navy acquired this Israeli drone?

Does the Royal Navy possess the Hermes 900 naval version drone? During an anti-submarine warfare (ASW) mission, this Israeli drone and the frigate Mohammed VI, a versatile and highly efficient vessel designed to carry out maritime defense missions, performed real-time information transmissions, reports Barlamane. Everything suggests that Morocco has acquired this cutting-edge technology, which is currently in service with other forces, notably Egypt. Moreover, the Vice Admiral, Inspector of the Royal Moroccan Navy Mostafa El Alami, had expressed his interest in the advanced naval configuration of the Hermes 900 during the Euronaval 2022 international exhibition, one of the largest global exhibitions dedicated to naval and maritime defense where the latest technological innovations in this sector are presented.

Manufactured by the Israeli industrial company Elbit Systems, the Hermes 900 is a high-performance surveillance drone, renowned for its exceptional capabilities in intelligence gathering, real-time reconnaissance and long-range target tracking thanks to advanced sensors. The aircraft is used by several nations to strengthen their strategic and defense posture, particularly in maritime surveillance and detection of underwater threats. According to military experts, this new (or potential) acquisition could mark a turning point for the Royal Moroccan Navy, particularly in its ability to detect and neutralize underwater threats. For now, no official source has confirmed or denied Morocco’s acquisition of this Israeli drone.
