The Moroccan state spent nearly 100 billion on salaries in six months

Between January and June, Morocco allocated 97.4 billion dirhams to salaries, compared with 86.9 billion during the same period in 2025, according to the latest indicators from Bank Al-Maghrib.

The increase reached 12.1% year-on-year, or nearly 10.5 billion dirhams more. On average, the state’s wage bill thus amounted to just over 16 billion dirhams per month.

Nearly half of ordinary expenditure

Salaries now absorb around 45% of ordinary expenditure excluding compensation, which reached 215.7 billion dirhams in the first half of the year.

At the same time, total state expenditure rose by 15%, to nearly 287 billion dirhams. Ordinary revenues increased by 14.4%, allowing the budget deficit to fall to 24 billion dirhams, compared with 30.8 billion a year earlier.
