Tétouan Tourism Rebounds Despite COVID Concerns, Hotels See Surge in Bookings

After months of lethargy due to the coronavirus, tourism activity is resuming in Tétouan during this summer season, bringing a touch of happiness to hotel and restaurant operators. However, this temporary recovery is far from meeting all expectations.
The almost daily detection of new outbreaks of contamination in Tangier is not having a negative impact on tourism activity in Tétouan. Bookings are multiplying in hotel establishments in recent days, reports L’Économiste. "Bookings are continuing until the end of August," says Rkia Alaoui, president of the Regional Tourism Council of the Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceima region. This is good news for hotel and restaurant operators.
The positive effect is the achievement of maximum capacity, which can relaunch the need for working capital for hotels and absorb seasonal jobs. But this cannot yet solve the issue of job instability. The health crisis related to the coronavirus has led to a huge wave of layoffs in the region. In addition, it should be noted that people from other regions without proven skills occupy several positions in the region.
