UK Terror Alert Sparks Tourist Exodus from Morocco’s Marrakech Airport

Marrakech airport recorded a strong influx of tourists following a message from the United Kingdom advising its nationals not to travel to 18 countries, including Morocco, due to a high risk of attacks during this period marked by the war between Israel and the Palestinian Hamas movement and the attack carried out by Iran against Israeli territory.
On Sunday, hundreds of tourists were at Marrakech airport. The origin of this strong influx is the publication by the British Foreign Office of a "warning update" on its website providing travel advice following the Iranian attack on Israel, according to a source contacted by Challenge. But this strong concentration of travelers would also be linked to the Easter holidays starting in mid-April in Europe. "Flights, especially from Ryanair, have started to be operated from this April," notes an industry professional.
On Friday, the Foreign Office (UK Foreign Office) advised its nationals to avoid traveling to 18 countries, including Morocco, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Algeria, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, Libya, Jordan, Lebanon, Bahrain, Syria, Iraq and Qatar. This new alert is motivated by the high risk of terrorist attacks that could be caused by the war between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip, as well as the serious developments in the tensions between the Jewish state and Iran. The latter launched more than 300 drones and missiles against Israel on Saturday night to Sunday, in retaliation for a strike against its consulate in Damascus.
