Tennis Star’s Fairytale Wedding: Auger-Aliassime’s Moroccan Romance
After six years of relationship, Canadian tennis player Félix Auger-Aliassime and Moroccan Nina Ghaibi got married at the end of September in Marrakech, in a ceremony worthy of a fairy tale.
The beautiful love story between Félix and Nina began in March 2019, during a tennis tournament where the Canadian noticed from afar the equestrian, born of a Croatian mother and a Moroccan father, and living in the United States. "I couldn’t get the idea that she was there... I absolutely had to meet her before leaving the city if I wanted to leave without regrets," recalls the athlete. He invites her to dinner and she accepts. "Without falling into cliché, it was a real love at first sight. After two hours, I told her that it was the beginning of a long and beautiful story together, and a few days later, we both knew we wanted to get married..."
The marriage proposal took place in November 2024 in the Seychelles, in a paradisiacal setting. "As we were relaxing on the balcony, I asked her to bring me my notebook that was in our room..." he recounts. When Nina returned, Félix was waiting for her with an engagement ring. "It was a beautiful moment, we had been waiting for it for years, and I couldn’t have dreamed of a more magical one. The rest of the evening unfolded like a movie. We went for a picnic at sunset at the top of the island," he adds. The evening continued with a beach barbecue, with parents and friends.
Then came the wedding. Félix and Nina chose to celebrate it at the end of last September at the Selman Marrakech hotel, after ten months of intense preparation. The ceremony took place in a breathtaking setting. "It was beautiful wherever you looked, whether it was the Moroccan local vegetation, the crowd of 120 people dressed in colorful outfits, or the love that poured out on the stage under the arch filled with flowers," describes Félix. "The ceremony was intimate, warm, full of emotion, everything we could have wished for." For the occasion, Félix wore a Dior outfit. Nina, on the other hand, was dazzling in a Vera Wang wedding dress, as well as in a Moroccan caftan and other dresses by Lebanese designers.
The two lovebirds lived a unique moment. "[...] It’s a moment that will never happen again in our lives. The image of my beautiful wife walking with her father is an image I will cherish forever. It is also difficult to describe the gift it was for us to watch this incredible crowd. We had tears in our eyes when the officiant mentioned the names of our grandparents, who are no longer with us but whose presence is extremely strong in our hearts. Overall, the ceremony was a perfect combination of emotions such as happiness, gratitude, nostalgia, peace, euphoria and hope. And it ended with the sweetest of kisses," Félix rejoices.
After the ceremony, the guests were treated to a sunset cocktail before joining the garden for dinner. "Our favorite moments of the evening were the touching and funny speeches given by our family and myself, who had the opportunity to say out loud everything I’ve always wanted to those I love the most," continues Félix, who has a good memory of the performance of the artists from the Festival Band. "They offered us the best concert of our lives for the party of our dreams. We danced, sang and laughed like crazy. I would have liked to be able to stop time and stay there forever. It’s a bit hard to know that these moments are now just memories, but we will relive them for the rest of our lives through conversations, photos and videos, and one day, we will share these stories with our children."
