Teen Hero Honored for Daring Rescue in Spain’s Ebro River

The municipal council of Tudela, in northern Spain, has awarded a certificate of recognition to Redouane Hamdai, a 15-year-old boy who saved the life of a drunken man who fell into the Ebro on June 23.
The mayor of Tudela, Alejandro Toquero, organized a reception in honor of the young resident of Ablitas with his family. On this occasion, a certificate of recognition was presented to him to thank him for his act of bravery. "One moment is enough to become a hero and a lifetime to become a good man. You, Radouane, have already lived that moment. And I’m sure we have a future great man before us," Toquero said.
According to witnesses to the rescue act, the minor jumped into the Ebro to rescue the drunken man who had fallen into the river and was carried away by the current, after losing his balance on the steps of the municipal dock.
When the local police officers arrived at the scene, young Redouane had already managed to pull the man out of the water. The individual had facial injuries and was taken by ambulance to the Reina Sofía hospital in Tudela for first aid. Radouane Hamdai, on the other hand, was unharmed.
