Teen Killed, Four Injured in Shooting at Poitiers Snack Bar

A 15-year-old teenager, Anis, was killed by gunfire on Thursday evening in the Place de Coimbra in the Couronneries neighborhood of Poitiers. The tragedy occurred around 10:45 p.m. when a man opened fire on a group of young people sitting at a snack bar.
Four other teenagers were injured. The alleged aggressor would be a man in his twenties who recently arrived in the neighborhood and is trying to establish himself in the drug trade, reports La Nouvelle République.
According to witnesses, the man, armed with a 22 LR rifle, fired several times at the young people. Eleven shell casings were found at the scene. The victim, named Anis, was hit in the head. "He was a nice boy, he had nothing to do with the drug trade," said Wajih Ayed, a witness to the scene.
The emergency response was complicated by the large crowd due to the festivities organized in the neighborhood that evening. The police had to use tear gas grenades to disperse a group of individuals trying to approach the scene.
A fight broke out later in the evening, with some blaming others for knowing the aggressor. Three threatened men were secured by the police. The public prosecutor and the prefect indicated that no damage or violence against the police had been reported.
Given the seriousness of the events, the prefect deployed a large security device composed of about a hundred police officers and riot police in several neighborhoods of Poitiers. This device will remain in place at least until Monday.
