Teacher Faces Backlash After Violent Assault on Student in Moroccan Classroom

An Islamic education teacher at a preparatory college located in Ifrane Atlas Saghir, Guelmim province, has been the subject of a heated controversy after assaulting one of his students. The incident took place in the classroom last Monday, when the student, in answering a question about bees and flowers, provoked the teacher’s anger.
According to the student’s family, the teacher would then have isolated him and beaten him violently, inflicting injuries on his back that later became infected. Shocked by the condition of her son, the family threatened to file a complaint against the teacher.
Faced with the scale of the scandal and the mobilization of the educational community, the teacher officially apologized to the student and his family. In a written letter, he expressed regret for his "unusual" and "unacceptable" behavior, stressing that he had "never imagined things would go so far." Saying he was "still shocked by what happened," he reaffirmed his commitment to the values of dialogue, forgiveness and tolerance, specifying that he had never been "an advocate of violence."
Welcoming the family’s understanding and mediation efforts, the teacher also acknowledged the legitimate anger of the student’s mother and her relatives. Finally, the family decided to waive the complaint, favoring an amicable settlement.
