Taxi Drivers Protest Motorcycle Ride-Sharing Apps in Casablanca

Some apps like "InDrive" have started offering passenger transport services by motorcycle in some cities like Casablanca. Professionals in the sector are outraged by this new practice and call on the authorities to take their responsibilities.
This new service offering from applications operating in the transport sector has sparked the anger of taxi drivers who hold the government, and mainly the Ministries of the Interior and Transport, responsible for this situation. Mustapha Chaoun, national secretary of the Democratic Organization of Multimodal Transport and Logistics, denounced the transport of passengers on "traditional motorcycles in Casablanca and elsewhere".
In a statement to Hespress, Chaoun recalled that "the Minister of the Interior specified, in a parliamentary response, the illegality of this type of transport... ; the government is obliged to reveal the type of transport and the method it wishes." The national secretary of the Democratic Organization of Multimodal Transport and Logistics added that "as professionals within the organization, we are in favor of a new model of transport and mobility based on current societal transformations, we are in favor of the law and the regulation of these means and their submission to legal standards".
"It’s becoming excessive, and every day an innovation from these transcontinental companies appears, and as long as there is a mobile phone, we can expect anything in the face of the government’s silence. Therefore, we eagerly await the study announced by the minister to announce a new model of transport and mobility that breaks with all the old practices and modernizes the transport infrastructure," Chaoun continued.
