Taxi Chaos Threatens Marrakech’s Tourism Appeal

In Marrakech, the public transport sector is plunged into chaos due to the behavior of taxi drivers, which tarnishes the image of the red city as a global tourist destination.
Virulent disputes between small and large taxi drivers, random parking in unauthorized areas, obstruction of traffic and non-compliance with the Highway Code. The drivers offer an unworthy spectacle to tourists who mainly depend on taxis as a means of transport, and give them a feeling of insecurity and lack of consideration. This affects the quality of the services provided.
The negative experiences of tourists impact the attractiveness of Marrakech as a global tourist destination. Transport services and the lack of organization in taxi stations have a negative impact on the city’s economy, affecting the tourism sector. This is one of the pillars of the local economy.
Faced with this gloomy picture, it is urgent to review the organization of the taxi sector. This will involve the implementation of clear laws that must be strictly enforced. It is also important to organize training for drivers in order to improve their behavior and their relationship with clients.
