Tawfik Bentayeb leads ESTAC: Moroccan striker shines in Ligue 2
Thanks to their Moroccan striker Tawfik Bentayeb, the championship’s current top scorer, ESTAC Troyes sit at the top of Ligue 2. The attacking duo he forms with Mathys Détourbet is driving the club’s promotion ambitions.
After finishing mid-table last season, the team managed by Stéphane Dumont now leads the competition with 45 points. Troyes recently strengthened their position at the top with a spectacular victory over Pau (4-3), allowing them to maintain a two-point lead over Saint-Étienne. This success ended a run of five matches without a win and confirmed the ambitions of the Aube-based club to return to the top flight, Footmercato reports.

ESTAC’s success is largely built on Tawfik Bentayeb’s efficiency. Trained at the Mohammed VI Academy, the 23-year-old Moroccan international has established himself as the most prolific striker in France’s second tier. With 12 goals in 18 league appearances, he currently leads the scoring charts. His eye for goal and quick integration have made him the cornerstone of Troyes’ attacking system this season.

However, the player’s contractual situation raises questions about the future. Currently on loan from Union Touarga, Bentayeb is not subject to any automatic purchase option. If his statistics continue to improve, his market value should soar during the next transfer window, forcing ESTAC’s directors to make a significant investment to keep him. In the meantime, his partnership with young prodigy Mathys Détourbet remains the club’s biggest asset in the final sprint.
