Tangier Unveils $7 Million Interchange to Boost Access to Free Trade Zone

A new interchange has just been inaugurated in Tangier. It is located on the national road 1 (RN1) at the Gzenaya roundabout, at the entrance to the Tangier Free Zone (TFZ).
The result of an investment of nearly 70 million dirhams, this facility, 300 m long, is composed of "two access ramps, an upper roundabout, rainwater drainage devices and wall cladding," according to the details provided by the Agency for the Promotion and Development of the North (APDN), which explains that it is "the eighth interchange built in the agglomeration of the city of Tangier, connecting the city center to the TFZ". With this new interchange, "the travel time from the city center to the TFZ has dropped below twenty minutes, half the initial time recorded in 2015".
This project was carried out in partnership with the Wilaya of the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region, the Tangier-Mediterranean Special Agency (TMSA), the APDN and the urban municipality of Gzenaya. The large-scale redevelopment of the city of Tangier is part of the ’Tangier Metropolis’ project, initiated by King Mohammed VI.
