Tangier Tourism Rebounds: August Bookings Surge Despite Late Season Start

Despite the huge delay in the tourist season due to the postponement of school exam dates and the celebration of Eid al-Adha, tourism is gradually picking up in the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region. August looks promising.
"Usually, the start of the summer season is between July 15 and 20 and lasts until the end of August, but this year we started late," said Rkia Alaoui, president of the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima regional tourism council. The tourism sector is trying to make up for this delay. "The majority of hotels have managed to make up for this delay during the last week of July, more or less," she said. Rkia Alaoui is convinced that August will be promising.
August "brings good news, as the region is expecting a large influx of vacationers of various categories, including foreign tourists, domestic tourists and Moroccans residing abroad," the official added. However, challenges remain, including soaring prices for services in restaurants, cafes and shops, and the huge difficulties in getting around Tangier.
