Tangier Residents Outraged as City Cleans Streets with Water During Drought and Rainstorms

In Tangier, the street cleaning by tanker trucks of the company Mecomar, in charge of the city’s cleanliness, in this context of water stress and especially heavy rains, has outraged the residents.
The action of Mecomar is irresponsible, declared the municipal councilor, Bilal Akouh, to the press, denouncing a waste of water at a time when this resource is becoming scarce. The local elected official emphasizes the need to rationalize water and direct water resources to priority sectors, rather than wasting it during this rainy period.
This act of Mecomar comes after the campaign led by the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE), in collaboration with the Loukkos Hydraulic Basin Agency, to raise awareness about the rationalization of water consumption.
The incident has sparked the indignation of the inhabitants of Tangier who doubt the commitment of Mecomar to respect the measures aimed at rationalizing water, as well as the effectiveness of the control of the competent authorities. Akouk, for his part, calls for close collaboration between all stakeholders with a view to rationalizing water resources during this drought period.
