Tangier’s Old Medina Undergoes Major Demolition and Restoration Project

Dwellings in an advanced state of dilapidation in the old medina of Tangier are being systematically demolished. The operation aims to enhance the heritage of the region in the long run.
The objective of this operation, carried out as part of the Program for the Rehabilitation of Buildings in an Advanced State of Dilapidation in the Old Medina of Tangier, is to protect citizens by putting in place a support system based on rehousing and dismantling.
According to the Wilaya of the Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceim region, this Program aims to improve the image of the hill and mainly that of the El Hafa district. This involves development work carried out at the level of the hill’s belt, the creation of green spaces and pedestrian walkways leading to the Merkala corniche, all contributing to the embellishment of the city.
