Tangier Hotels Struggle as COVID-19 Restrictions Devastate Tourism

The health crisis due to the coronavirus has strongly impacted the hotel industry in Tangier. The region experienced a disastrous summer season.
The closure of the beaches and the ban on going to or leaving the city, now classified as a Zone 2, added to the closely monitored movements due to the resurgence of new infections, have dealt a blow to this sector, already plagued by difficulties since the start of the health crisis.
For Ali Kadiri, president of the Regional Association of the Hotel Industry, cited by L’Economiste, several hoteliers have chosen to close their establishments, faced with this dismal observation.
In detail, the average occupancy rates stood at 15% for 5-star hotels against 14% for 4-star hotels. The hotel industry in Tangier is experiencing one of its worst years.
