Tangier Hotels Face Record Low Occupancy as COVID-19 Restrictions Cripple Tourism

This year’s summer will have been the worst summer season for hoteliers in Tangier who were unable to achieve the turnover they expected. The reason is the restrictive measures, including the ban on travel to and from eight cities, to curb the spread of the coronavirus.
While the city’s hoteliers were counting on the summer season to get their finances in good shape after the lockdown, they experienced a lean period. The health crisis related to Covid-19 continues to impact the sector. This is evidenced by the occupancy rates recorded in August: around 15% for 5-star hotels and 14% for 4-star hotels, reports L’Économiste.
Similarly, nearly one in two hotels had to close due to the absence of many tourists in the city. This situation persists without the professionals having any visibility on the sector. In addition to hotels, travel agencies and restaurateurs and café owners are also hit hard by this crisis.
