Tangier Expands COVID-19 Care: New 27-Bed ICU Opens at Duc De Tovar Hospital

After the Mohamed VI hospital and the social security clinic, a new medical intensive care unit has been created at the Duc De Tovar hospital in Tangier, to increase the bed capacity dedicated to the treatment of critical cases of Covid-19 infection.
This new intensive care unit has a capacity of 27 beds and is equipped with modern medical and biotechnological equipment to continuously monitor the breathing, heart and vital functions of patients, according to the MAP.
"This unit will allow us to strengthen the capacity to care for critical cases arriving at the hospitals in Tangier during this period, particularly vulnerable groups such as people over 65 and those with chronic diseases," said Dr. Ouafae Ajnaou, regional director of Health in Tangier-Tétouan-Al Hoceima.
According to her, this service has the necessary medical equipment and is supervised by medical staff from the public and private sectors and the military medical service. "Any medical staff who wish to volunteer will be welcome," added the director.
For his part, Professor Hicham Sbai, a specialist in anesthesia and resuscitation at the University Hospital Center of Tangier, suggested that this service will strengthen the reception capacity in the intensive care units and relieve the pressure on them.
