Tangier Cracks Down on Illegal Car Guarding Practices

Younes Tazi, Wali of the Tangier-Tétouan-Al Hoceïma region and governor of the prefecture of Tangier-Assilah, has declared war on the illegal practices of vehicle guarding that are proliferating in the city.
Faced with the abusive occupation of public space, a radical decision has been made: the issuance of authorizations for vehicle guarding in the streets, alleys and public squares of Tangier is now suspended.
This measure, which concerns all four districts of the city, aims to put an end to the illegal behaviors and practices generated by this informal activity.
"The authorizations for vehicle guarding have led to excesses that are detrimental to the quality of public space," reads social media posts following this decision.
The local authorities have already received instructions to stop issuing these authorizations in the main streets and public squares under their jurisdiction.
Parallel to this initiative, a new legal framework is being developed to frame and regulate the management of vehicle parking in Tangier.
