Tangier Allocates $200,000 to Combat Rat and Mosquito Infestation

Faced with the proliferation of rats and mosquitoes in the neighborhoods of Tangier, the city authorities have just allocated two million dirhams to finance a rat control and disinfection campaign.
The suspension of insecticide spraying since last summer has led to this proliferation of mosquitoes, particularly in neighborhoods located near the beach, waterways and green spaces, reports the daily Akhbar. The residents of Tangier, overwhelmed by the situation, have alerted the local authorities, who have asked the company in charge of the city’s delegated cleanliness management to take appropriate measures to prevent the spread of infectious diseases.
The company had nevertheless planned measures to combat the proliferation of pests in its annual action program. But due to lack of funding, the implementation of the program has been delayed, the daily specifies. The company, in collaboration with the municipal health office, is working to carry out a rat control and disinsectization campaign in the most affected areas of the city.
