Tangier Airport to Expand in 2024 as Morocco Invests in Air Travel Infrastructure

In anticipation of the increase in air traffic, the Tangier Ibn Battouta airport will undergo extension work next year.
This expansion work is integrated into the investment program of the National Airports Office (ONDA) for the 2022-2024 period, as part of the draft finance law (PLF) for the 2022 fiscal year.
According to the note, the Office plans to invest 1.55 billion dirhams in 2022, 2.08 billion dirhams in 2023 and 1.83 billion dirhams in 2024, which will be largely dedicated to extensions and the development of airport capacities (Rabat, Tangier, Agadir, Dakhla, Tetouan, Al Hoceima...).
This investment is part of the recovery plan for the airport sector, which will experience a boom over the next three years according to forecasts, which indicate that "for the years 2022 to 2024, air traffic should experience a gradual recovery estimated at 15 million passengers in 2022, then 20 million passengers in 2023 before returning, in 2024, to normal activity close to that of 2019, i.e. 25 million passengers".
