Tanger-Med Port Rises to 2nd Best Global Economic Zone, Financial Times Reports

FDI Intelligence of the Financial Times has ranked the port of Tanger-Med as the 2nd best special economic zone in the world. Several other awards have been won by the port complex.
Tanger-Med has achieved a feat this year in the ranking. While it had occupied 5th place in 2019, it has surpassed itself by positioning itself just after the leader in the "Dubai Multi Commodities Center" sub-region.
After Tanger Med, "Katowice Special Economic Zone" in Poland, and "Waigaoqiao Free Trade Zone" in China are positioned. According to the Tanger Med group, this performance of the Moroccan port is a first in this global ranking. It testifies "to the tremendous rise of the network of activity zones developed by Tanger Med, the largest industrial-port complex in Africa, located on the Strait of Gibraltar".
In addition to this distinction, Tanger Med has also been awarded the global 1st prize "Large Tenant" for the category of large investment projects, the mention of a global specialist in the automotive sector "Specialism Award in Automotive" thanks to the dynamism of a strong automotive ecosystem of about a hundred equipment manufacturers installed. It also won the 1st African prize for SMEs "Free Zone of the Year for SME’s" thanks to the infrastructure offer and the commercial opportunities offered for this category of companies.
Covering an area of 2,000 ha, Tanger-Med has six activity zones focused on the automotive, aeronautics, logistics, textile and trade sectors. More than 1,000 companies operate on this platform, for an annual export business volume of 85 billion dirhams in 2019. It currently generates nearly 80,000 jobs, we are told.
