Tanger-Med’s $500 Million Expansion to Revolutionize North African Trade

The port of Tanger-Med wants to expand its terminal for passengers and trucks. This ambitious expansion project will require an investment of more than 5 billion dirhams and will allow the Moroccan port to double its operational capacity and consolidate its position as an economic and logistics hub in North Africa.
The project plans to increase the number of trucks handled each year to up to one million units, which is almost double the 2024 figures where around 516,000 trucks were recorded. This increase in capacity will help streamline the transportation of goods, improve the supply chain, and facilitate connection with major international markets.
The project also plans to build modern infrastructure and implement improved services for travelers. With this expansion of its terminal, Tanger-Med will not only strengthen its role in the transportation of goods, but also in the mobility of people, thus contributing to the economic development of the North and the kingdom as a whole.
The project aims to strengthen the position of the port of Tanger-Med as one of the most important logistics hubs in the Mediterranean and a key point on the global maritime trade map, promoting the connection between Europe, Africa, and Asia. It is also expected to generate new direct and indirect jobs.
