Swastikas Found on Mosque Construction Site in Amboise, France
Tuesday 8 January 2019, by
Swastikas were discovered on Monday morning on the wall of the future mosque in Amboise (Indre-et-Loire), currently under construction.
According to France Bleu, five Nazi crosses were painted on the perimeter wall and barriers of the mosque construction site in Amboise. The alert had been given by a neighbor who claims that the crosses were not yet written at 8:30 a.m. when he left for work.
The Turkish cultural association will file a complaint and the sub-prefect went to the site to show his support to the Muslim community in the city, the same source said.
In a message posted on Twitter, the prefecture condemned this racist act. "Condemnation of the swastikas imposed on the construction site of the Amboise mosque. Support for the targeted Turkish Muslim community that the sub-prefect of Loches went to meet. Investigation opened."
Since the start of the construction site, several racist acts have targeted this mosque. The latest dates back to 2013 when a dead pig’s head had been placed near the mosque.
"We are not angry, but we are very sad. This gesture is a provocation..." members of the association said at the time. "We are waiting for the institutions to give us their support and publicly condemn these actions. No one said anything to us after the first complaint, we don’t know what the investigation has led to, we don’t even know if the complaint has been dismissed" they deplored.
