Suspected Radical Islamist on Terror Watch List Runs for Local Office in France

A man who has been under police surveillance for several years is running for municipal elections in Goussainville, in the Val-d’Oise. Abdelaziz Hamida is on the "S" list for radical Islamism.
According to information from L’Express, the man was the subject of an "S" file, for radical Islamism. He would be close to the fundamentalist movement, Tabligh, specifically mentioned in the judicial file of the jihadist network of Lunel.
The man had aroused the suspicions of the intelligence services because of his proselytizing activities and because several people in his entourage are listed for radicalism.
Among them, an individual had particularly stood out by observing two days of fasting at the time of the death of Mohammed Merah, the terrorist who carried out the killings in Toulouse and Montauban in 2012.
It was on March 14, 2019 that Abdelaziz Hamida unveiled his political intentions by inaugurating his campaign headquarters. He is running, according to L’Express, in the municipal elections in Goussainville, a commune in the Val-d’Oise with 30,000 inhabitants. His slogan, "The audacity of renewal".
At 43, he holds a "Master’s degree in Local and Territorial Collectivities Law from the University of Paris VIII. He is presented as an "entrepreneur" and an associative executive. According to the weekly, he was President of the Goussainville Football Club.
