Survey: 24% of Moroccan Households Expect Living Standards to Decline

24.4% of Moroccan households expect a deterioration in their standard of living over the next 12 months, according to data revealed by the High Commission for Planning (HCP).
After a sharp deterioration over the past 12 months, marked by the Covid-19 pandemic, the morale of Moroccan households is less bad in the third quarter of 2021. This is indicated by the results of the permanent household survey conducted by the HCP.
Overall, 59.4% of households report a deterioration in their standard of living over the past 12 months, 22.7% a maintenance at the same level and 17.9% an improvement.
Over the next 12 months, 24.4% of households expect a decline in their standard of living, 41.8% a maintenance at the same level, 33.8% an improvement.
Regarding unemployment, the survey notes a persistence of a negative perception. Thus, 84.2% against 5.9% of households expect an increase in unemployment over the next 12 months.
Also, the economic situation is perceived as not conducive to the purchase of durable goods. 72.1% against 10.1% of households consider that the time is not right to make purchases of durable goods.
Other survey data on savings and the cost of food products reflect the feelings of Moroccan households, who anticipate a high cost of living over the next 12 months.
