Survey: Half of Moroccans Support Canceling Eid al-Adha Amid Rising Sheep Prices

48% of Moroccans want the celebration of Eid al-Adha this year to be cancelled. This is revealed by a survey conducted by the Moroccan Center for Citizenship.
Due to the current difficult economic context, many Moroccans are in favor of canceling the Feast of Sacrifice this year. According to the study conducted by the Moroccan Center for Citizenship, the continuous rise in sheep prices is a concern for Moroccans. 85% of respondents fear that this trend will continue until the celebration of Eid al-Adha and that the sheep will cost more this year compared to last year.
For 64% of respondents, this price increase is due to the government’s support for breeders at the expense of citizens. In the same vein, 82% would have liked the Executive to provide direct financial assistance to low-income families for the purchase of the sheep for the sacrifice. Also, 75% of respondents see Eid al-Adha as a unique moment to strengthen family ties.
The survey also reveals that 70% of Moroccan families attach importance to the sacrifice of the sheep during Eid al-Adha to pass on this practice to their offspring. Despite the economic crisis, 60% of respondents are keen to sacrifice this tradition because of their children.
