Surge in Moroccan Travelers Expected at Spanish Ports for Operation Marhaba

The ports of Algeciras and Tarifa will record a significant influx of Moroccans from Europe this weekend, where the outward and return phases of Operation Marhaba 2022 coincide.
The dates of July 29, 30 and 31 and August 1, 2, 3 and 4 are considered periods of high influx of Moroccans living abroad coming from and going to Morocco as part of Operation Marhaba. In a month, particularly on August 27, 28 and 29, a second critical period will be noted, explained José Pacheco, the sub-delegate of the government of Cádiz.
The provincial committee of the Operation will follow the evolution of the flow hour by hour this weekend to avoid traffic jams as much as possible, even if it acknowledges that waiting times are likely to increase.
Between June 15 and July 25, 937,532 Moroccans living abroad have already joined Morocco as part of the Transit Operation, which represents an 8% increase compared to 2019. The number of vehicles stood at 225,278, or nearly 15% more than in 2019.
In terms of flow, Algeciras (Cádiz) concentrates 60% of the traffic, followed by Almería (17%) and Tarifa (12%). 62% of Moroccans living abroad from Spain disembarked at the port of Tanger Med.
