Suffering from throat cancer, Amazigh singer Omar Boutmazought appeals for help

The singer explains to Al3omk that his cancer was not discovered at an early stage. He has already undergone chemotherapy and is continuing treatment that regularly requires radiotherapy, scans, medication and medical tests.

The illness directly affects his voice. During his conversation with the media outlet, Omar Boutmazought had great difficulty speaking, and his voice had become barely audible.

Based in Khemisset, the artist must regularly travel to Salé to receive treatment at Moulay Abdallah Hospital. These repeated journeys add to his expenses and exhaustion. Lacking the means, he explains that he cannot rent accommodation near the hospital.

Without work for a year and a half

His financial situation has deteriorated considerably since he stopped working about eighteen months ago. Friends are trying to help him through individual contributions, but these sums are no longer enough to cover all his medical costs and daily expenses.

Omar Boutmazought is now appealing to the Ministry of Culture for coverage and assistance to continue his treatment. The department had already intervened in the past to cover the hospitalization costs of Amazigh artist Raïs Ahmad Bizmaoun or support singer Khadija El Bidaouia during her battle with cancer.

Born in Khemisset in 1964, Omar Boutmazought has been active for several decades in the Amazigh music of the Middle Atlas.
