Study: 87% of Moroccans Plan to Travel in 2023, Agadir Top Destination

According to a study conducted by the Avito platform via surveyMonkey, 87% of Moroccans say they intend to travel in 2023. And Agadir is the preferred destination for a quarter of the respondents.

The 2023 trends are emerging. Conducted by Avito.ma. via surveyMonkey on a sample of 209 people in July 2023, a study reveals that 87% of Moroccans intend to travel this year compared to a share of 82% in 2022. Nearly half of Moroccans (59%) have opted for the Avito.ma platform to book their stays.

29% of respondents booked their stays on Booking, 10% on AirBnB and 9% on Trivago. Booking has seen its bookings drop considerably in one year, from 46% in 2022 to 29% this year. This trend could continue due to its decision regarding the payment of bookings in foreign currency. "In the current context, the introduction of new regulations on the Booking.com platform from July 17, 2023 is likely to reduce interest in these platforms, as residents will be required to pay their bookings in foreign currency rather than in dirhams. The fact that foreign exchange allocations are regulated in the kingdom will push users to look for an alternative that is closer to Moroccans on a daily basis," explains the same study.

What about Moroccans’ preferred destinations this summer? Moroccans favor seaside destinations. Almost 25% of respondents said they prefer the city of Agadir for their holidays, 19% prefer Tetouan, Martil (17%), Tangier (15%) and Saïdia (14%). In terms of accommodation, 45% of Moroccans have opted for apartments due to the benefits and features that this type of accommodation provides them. "About 22% have chosen to spend their stay in hotel establishments, while 14% will stay with family and 10% will spend their summer holidays in houses and villas," the study specifies.
