Study: 40% of Moroccan Women Need Family Approval to Enter Workforce

While the process of economic integration of Moroccan women is not fully established, they still have to seek permission from their family to work.
According to a study by the Ministry of Solidarity and Social Development, reported by Al Ahdath Al Maghribia, the percentage of women who have accessed the labor market, with family authorization, is at least 40%.
This reality is linked to the integration of women into the economic sector. The study highlighted the barriers related to the empowerment of Moroccan women. These include illiteracy, which affects 44% of them in urban areas, and 60% in rural areas. Then there is the dropout from school that hinders the emancipatory momentum of women economically. To all this, we must also integrate the mentalities and prejudices they face. They also encounter more difficulties when they are more educated.
"Indicators related to gender equality are still at worrying levels," said the minister. Worse, Morocco has fallen back six points on the index published in the 2019 Global Gender Gap Report. The Kingdom is now ranked 143rd out of 153 countries.
A strategic study on the economic empowerment of women has just been launched. There will also be the development of a national integrated program for the economic empowerment of women (PNIAEF) by 2030, announces the minister.
