Study: Madrid’s Climate in 2050 Could Match Current Marrakech Temperatures

In 2050, the temperatures in Madrid would be similar to those currently recorded in Marrakech, according to a study published in 2019 and taken up in a report published on Tuesday by the UN.
The report, which warns of the hardly reversible effects of climate change, confirms a study published in 2019 in the scientific journal PLoS One and which predicts the temperatures of 530 cities in 2050. According to this study, the temperatures in Madrid in 2050 would be similar to those currently recorded in Marrakech. The city of Cordoba, for its part, would have a temperature similar to that of Baghdad.

In 2050, London would also have the current average summer temperature of Barcelona, indicates the same source, specifying that the British capital would go from its current average of 23 degrees to the 29 degrees usually recorded in the Catalan capital.
But beyond an increase in temperatures, the UN report warns of climate change that would strike coastal cities like Barcelona. According to data from the Intergovernmental Panel on the United Nations on Climate Change (IPCC) or the scientific journal Climate Atmospheric Science, the sea level will rise in Barcelona, which would thus be submerged. Similarly, the city would cease to be a suitable land for wine growing. Climate change, particularly high temperatures, would make this culture difficult.
