Stranded Moroccan Ferry Set to Resume Algeciras-Tangier Route After Months of Delay

The ferry "Le Rif" well known to many Moroccans living abroad who have made the crossing between Algeciras and Tangier could resume service in a few days.
The former ship had been immobilized for many months in Genoa with about twenty Moroccan sailors on board in a more than precarious situation.
"The men survive only thanks to the solidarity of the employees working in the dry docks of the port," reported the local press a few weeks ago, quoted by the specialized website Mer et Marine. These sailors had no intention of abandoning their ship for fear of not receiving the unpaid wages that had never been paid by the former shipowner.
Today, therefore, Le Rif could resume service on the occasion of the Marhaba 2019 operation which officially starts on June 15. The company Africa Morocco Link could therefore give it a second youth, at least during the summer season. But it will be under the name Morocco Sun that this ship will make the connection between Morocco and Spain, specifies the same source.
Built in 1980, the ship had been sold to the Moroccan company International Maritime Transport in 2002 before having the end we know. 129 meters long, it can carry up to 1000 passengers and 144 cars.
