Stranded Moroccan Farm Workers in Spain Set for Repatriation Amid COVID-19 Precautions

The Moroccan seasonal workers stranded in Huelva, southern Spain, will finally be able to return home in the coming days. Several associations are actively preparing this repatriation with the mandatory presentation of a negative Covid-19 PCR test.
The 170 Moroccan seasonal workers under contract, currently stranded in Huelva, Spain, will benefit from a humanitarian corridor to be able to return to Morocco. According to the website Huelva24, the agricultural organizations Asaja-Huelva, Freshuelva and Cooperativas Agro-Alimentarias de Andalucía, with the help of Interfresa Prelsi, are currently preparing this repatriation operation.
Negotiations between the authorities of the two countries were conducted with the Moroccan consulate and the ambassador of the Kingdom, Karima Benyaich. The Union of Small Farmers and Ranchers (UPA) recalled that several reasons justify this repatriation. These include "health reasons, the birth of children or the death of relatives in Morocco".
