Standard Liège Star Carcela Sleeps Through Belgian Golden Boot Ceremony

Moroccan international Mehdi Carcela was not present last night at the Soulier d’Or gala rewarding the best Belgian football players because he fell asleep.
The coach of the Standard de Liège club, Michel Preud’homme, had to apologize on behalf of the club. "That’s Mehdi. He’s an artist on the field, then he can surprise you. He has all the qualities to win the Soulier d’Or, but he has to be more consistent, and he must have an exemplary behavior..."
The Moroccan player ultimately finished second behind Hans Vanaken and ahead of Racing Genk player Alejandro Pozuelo.
Interviewed by RTBF, his coach confided that Carcela does not seem interested in the prize even though he is very happy in Liège and intends to stay there. "Mehdi likes to live his own way. He feels good in Liège, that’s where he delivers performances. Does a Soulier d’Or really interest him? I don’t think so. It’s weird, but it’s the personality of each one. Some prefer to live as they want. Others make more sacrifices, I’m not saying Mehdi doesn’t, because they want to achieve certain goals."
