Spanish Women’s Soccer in Turmoil: 15 Players Quit National Team Over Coach Dispute

Crisis within the Spanish national football team. Fifteen players, including the Moroccan Leila Ouahabi, have decided to leave the national team, to protest against the maintenance of the coach in his position by the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF).
In a message sent by each of the fifteen players, they claim not to support the atmosphere that has prevailed in the sports team for a few weeks. They describe a situation that "seriously" affects their "emotional state" and their "health". A number of them have demanded the departure of their coach Jorge Vilda.
In response to the message from these players, the RFEF has opposed a refusal, giving its support to the coach. "The RFEF will not allow the players to question the continuity of the national coach and his technical staff, because making these decisions is not within their competence." The federation says it takes note of the decision taken by the resigning players. "We will not call up the players who do not want to wear the Spain jersey. The Federation will only use motivated players, even if it means playing with young people," the statement reads.
In addition to the Moroccan-Spanish Leila Ouahabi and Laia Aleixandri who play for Manchester City, the Spanish radio COPE announces that on the list of resignees are Patri Guijarro, Mapi Leon, Sandra Panos, Aitana Bonmati, Claudia Pina and Mariona Caldentey from FC Barcelona, and Ona Batlle and Lucia Garcia from Manchester United.
