Spanish PM Urges UN-Led Talks on Western Sahara, Citing Morocco’s Strategic Importance

The head of the Spanish government, Pedro Sanchez, recognizes the strategic nature of his country’s relations with Morocco. The Spanish official has called on the international community to "relaunch negotiations" on the Moroccan Sahara under the auspices of the UN.
Pending the scheduling of the next High-Level meeting between Morocco and Spain, the head of the Spanish government believes that this summit could further strengthen the solid bilateral partnership. For Pedro Sanchez, the kingdom is a "fundamental country" for Spanish interests.
On the occasion of the 4th Conference of Spanish Ambassadors accredited abroad, the Spanish official declared that "Morocco is of paramount importance to Spain’s interests". In this regard, he called for strengthening the partnership and relations with the Maghreb countries. "Spain must contribute to the stability of the Maghreb. The stability and prosperity of the Maghreb will be beneficial for Europe and the world," he added.
It should be noted that Spain and Morocco want to promote the post-Covid economic recovery. The next high-level meeting, scheduled for next February, should give new impetus to bilateral relations, promised the head of government.
