Spanish PM's Undisclosed Morocco Trips Raise Questions About Official Travel

Falcon flights to Morocco, not included in Pedro Sanchez’s official agenda, have been recorded by Falcon Takes Off, a page created by a Spanish computer engineer. According to a decision of the National Court dated September 6, 2021, the Spanish president is required to declare his private trips with official state aircraft.

Computer engineer Pablo Bañuelos explains to Cadena COPE that with his site, he can record the "real-time" takeoff of all flights around the world and that some flights to Morocco "were not included in Pedro Sanchez’s official agenda". "They can’t all be attributed to the government," he develops, specifying that "the flights should be verified against the agendas of the Moncloa or the Royal House".

The page has recorded flights to Northern Europe "that coincide with some of Pedro Sanchez’s official trips", but those to Morocco and the Dominican Republic "were not on the official agenda," he insists. But the use of official planes for private trips could only be confirmed after a thorough analysis of the destinations of each flight and a verification of the ministers’ visit plans to these destinations, he adds.

This issue has sparked controversy after Pedro Sanchez made private trips with the presidential plane. He had gone with his wife Begoña Gómez to the Killers concert at the Benicàssim International Festival in 2018. That same year, he also used the official Super Puma helicopter to go to his brother-in-law’s wedding in La Rioja. He also took an official round-trip flight for his vacation in Doñana. The Spanish Prime Minister has refused to explain these trips.
