Spanish Transport Giant Alsa to Operate Casablanca Bus Network Starting November

The Spanish Alsa is the new operator of the bus network in Casablanca. The new concessionaire will face several challenges.
A contract will be signed between the new operator, Alsa, and Greater Casablanca, on October 15, reports Le360. However, it will come into effect on November 1, when a transitional phase will begin, which will last one year.
It is only after this period that 700 new buses will be received by the Spanish group. It will provide public transport in 18 municipalities under the Prefectures of Casablanca, Mohammedia and the provinces of Nouaceur and Mediouna.
Aware of the situation, the Intercommunal Cooperation Establishment (ECI), called "Al Baida", intends to pay for an initial batch of 350 buses that will be made available to the new concessionaire. According to Abdessamad Haikar, First Vice-President of the City Council, the call for tenders for the acquisition of these buses will be effective in the very near future.
He also stated that the buses inherited from M’dina Bus, called "return assets", will become the property of the city. However, these are means of transport that are out of use due to their dilapidated condition.
Consequently, the Alsa Group is called upon to carry out a vast program of redeployment of its already operational bus fleet in other cities (both in Morocco and internationally). This measure will help fill this void.
The other challenge awaiting Alsa is to put an end to the strike of M’dina Bus employees.
