Spanish Tourist Alleges Police Bribery in Morocco, Shares Experience on TikTok
A young Spaniard on a stay in Morocco was ripped off by Moroccan police officers. He recounts his misadventure.
"I just paid the first bribe of my life. We were crossing the Atlas and when we took a left turn, it was very dark. It was night. Suddenly, the police stopped me and they made up that I had run a stop sign," says the Spanish user Ibai Rider (@ibairider) in a video posted on Tik Tok.
The young man explains that the Moroccan police officer asked him to get out of the car, asked for his papers and ended up fining him 400 dirhams, or about 40 euros. "I was a little dejected because I hadn’t done anything, but I had no choice, I had to pay it," he added.
And to continue: "I take out a 200 dirham bill and suddenly they look at each other, exchange a few words and pocket it. They no longer gave me the fine, so I looked like an idiot. Now I have 20 euros less and a story to tell my grandchildren."
