King Mohammed VI's Former Chef Reveals Royal Kitchen Secrets

Babette de Rozières, famous French chef and regional councilor of Île-de-France, confided about her first meeting with King Mohammed VI and Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan. Without failing to recount anecdotes about the royal family.

It all started with a phone call. "At the time, there was no email, and on a Sunday I received a phone call at home from the King’s private secretariat [...]. I hung up. The phone rang again. I answered and started to tell the person off and hung up again. And the person called a third time and said do you have a fax," recounts Élisabeth de Rozières, known as Babette de Rozières, a guest on MyLymedia by Catherine Ceylac in the show "Intimate Conversation". She continues: "I switch to the fax and I see Private Secretariat of His Majesty and I say to myself: ’Is this not a joke?’ That’s how they called me and His Majesty asked me to come and make his meal."

She thus became the personal chef of the sovereign. "After that, he called me all the time, I went every month. The little one, the future king (Prince Heir Moulay El Hassan), I had him in my arms, I prepared his little purees and all that," she says, also stating that King Mohammed VI had a taster. "I think he had a taster, but His Majesty always tasted my little acras, without going through the taster. Even now, when he comes to Paris," she says.

Babette de Rozières does not refrain from recounting anecdotes about the royal family. "One day, in my restaurant, the king’s butler comes to see me again and tells me that they would like to organize an event with the king’s sister. But beware! I know very well the Creole cuisine [...] and tells me that His Majesty the King will be there. And I said nothing even though I had been working for him for eight or nine years. When His Majesty arrives (The butler was there to monitor everything I was doing), and looks in the kitchen and says ’Oh Babette’ and hugs me..." she recalls. And she adds: "The butler entered pale in his coian. Finally His Majesty takes me to his living room, I chat with his sister."
