Spanish Tomato Imports from Morocco Surge 348% in Eight Years

Spanish imports of tomatoes from Morocco have increased from around 18 million kilos in 2014 to 80 million kilos in 2021, an increase of 348%.
According to data collected by Hortoinfo from DataComex, the Secretary of State for Trade through the figures of the Customs and Excise Department of the Tax Agency, Spain has, over these eight years, increased its imports of tomatoes from Morocco by 347.84%. In volume, Spanish imports were around 18 million kilos and are now estimated at over 80 million kilos. In value, Spanish imports have increased from 147 million dirhams (about 13.71 million euros) in 2014 to 892 million dirhams (about 83.2 million euros) in 2021.
The price at which Spain bought Moroccan tomatoes has also increased by 35.53%. The average price at which Spanish importers paid for Moroccan tomatoes has increased from 0.76 euros per kilo in 2014 to 1.03 euros per kilo in 2021.
