Spanish Teachers in Morocco Demand Removal of Education Advisor Amid Staffing Crisis

After receiving several complaints from Spanish teachers, the Council of the Spanish Civil Service Personnel in Morocco has called for the dismissal of the former minister, María Antonia Trujillo, education advisor at the Spanish Embassy in Rabat.

The Council has informed the Director General of Education Planning and Management of the "majority feeling of Spanish teachers" in Morocco and expressed its "deep unease with the way the current person in charge is running the Education Department".

The way of working of the former Minister of Housing under Zapatero "affects the functioning of the ministry and educational centers, as well as the general work environment and daily activity," explains the Council in its letter dated January 19, blaming María Antonia Trujillo for not listening to the directors of the centers and remaining "insensitive" to their concerns.

The Council also denounces her "recklessness and the adoption of extraordinary measures" to replace teaching staff (about 360 Spanish teachers in Morocco), thus leading to a "progressive deterioration of the educational service" in the eleven Spanish educational centers in Morocco.

Parents of students have also complained about the situation, the Council notes in its letter, specifying that the Association of Parents of Students of the Spanish School of Rabat (AMPACER) has already sent a letter to the Ombudsman on January 26. Faced with the departure of teachers who are not replaced, the Association proposes the recruitment of local teachers in Morocco to fill this void.
