Spanish Soldiers Face Probe Over Alleged Abuse of Moroccan Minors in Ceuta

The Spanish army fears that its members who are suspected of having committed violence against Moroccan minors after their arrival in Ceuta last May will be prosecuted in court. In the event of an unfavorable response, the soldiers concerned are considering rebelling.
Panic in the ranks of the Spanish soldiers deployed in Ceuta to monitor the borders. The cause is the opening by the public prosecutor’s office of the city of a judicial investigation into the inhuman treatment inflicted on Moroccan minors by Spanish soldiers. The investigations reveal that soldiers mistreated minors and endangered their lives by throwing them into the sea, reports Assabah. This could lead to legal proceedings against the soldiers concerned.
Already, these soldiers announce that they will rebel if they are prosecuted in court. Responsible within the Spanish army have expressed "their anger about the judicial prosecution of their colleagues, claiming that their bosses have abandoned them". On the web, they have expressed their opposition and demanded "guarantees before being deployed on new fronts". The secretary general of a professional association within the army has indeed told the Spanish media that the soldiers had said many times that it is necessary for the elements operating on the borders to have legal security.
This situation comes at a time when the Spanish army general staff wants to restore discipline within the army. In this sense, it has ordered military intelligence to establish reports on the publications disseminated on social networks. The military intelligence report "warned against the rebellion of the soldiers deployed in Ceuta and Melilla who would not follow the orders of their superiors".
