Spanish Soccer Chief Praises Morocco’s World-Class Sports Facilities

After having half-heartedly disapproved of a joint candidacy with Morocco for the 2030 World Cup, the president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) now praises, as if by magic, the Moroccan sports infrastructure.
In an interview with the newspaper La Marca, Luis Rubiales said that "few countries in the world have sports facilities like those of Morocco", adding that the kingdom has greatly improved in terms of infrastructure. The sports official cites his recent trip to Tangier where the Spanish Super Cup between FC Barcelona and FC Seville had taken place.
Last November, just after the proposal made by the President of the Spanish Government to King Mohammed VI to embark on a joint candidacy, Rubiales had said he was surprised by this announcement, as he had intended to campaign for a single candidacy of his country.
If Luis Rubiales had been reluctant to call on Morocco, it is because he was not satisfied on August 12 with the relocation to Tangier of the Super Cup final between the two clubs, the president of the federation strongly criticizing the organization by the Moroccans and the glitches during the match. The same argument is now used to praise the kingdom...
On a trip to Morocco, Sànchez had proposed to Saâdeddine El Othmani and Mohammed VI a three-way candidacy (Spain, Portugal and Morocco) for the 2030 World Cup, a proposal that was very favorably received by the Moroccan authorities, who see it as an opportunity to present the first candidacy of two continents. For now, Portugal is still hesitating to get involved.
