Spanish Runner’s School Visit Sparks Outrage Over Doping Past

Ilias Fifa, who resumed competitions last year after a four-year suspension for doping, said in a tweet that he had transmitted "the values of athletics" to students during a conference. The publication of the Spanish athlete of Moroccan origin sparked outrage among Internet users.
"Today it was an honor to be with these students from the Pere de Tera school to give a conference on the values of athletics," Ilias Fifa wrote in the caption of a group photo with the students, posted on Twitter. The sentence shocked Internet users who believe that it should not come from someone who has served a sentence for doping.
"For someone of his caliber to talk about the values of sport is a bad thing. I will never believe in second chances in professional sport..." commented an Internet user. "We know his background and are aware of his mistakes and the sanctions he has served," the director of the Pere de Tera school clarified in a message.
Suspended for doping in 2018, two years after winning the European 5,000m title, Ilias Fifa resumed competition last May. But the world of athletics does not yet seem ready to forgive him for this serious fault. Since his return to competition, the Spanish athlete of Moroccan origin has been criticized for each of his acts.
