Spanish Runner Mohamed Katir Honored in Hometown After European Championship Silver

Mohamed Katir, silver medalist at the European Championships in Munich, was celebrated on Friday in Mula by the authorities and residents of the city, before heading to Morocco to visit his grandparents whom he has not seen "for four years".
The Spanish athlete of Moroccan origin was celebrated for his recent silver medal in the 5,000 meters at the last European championship held in Munich. Katir, accompanied by his father, his sister, his Portuguese-born girlfriend Sofia, and many neighbors, arrived at the Mula town hall where the mayor, Juan Jesús Moreno García, was waiting for him, surrounded by other councilors.
The authorities of Mula thanked Katir for keeping the promise he made on July 22nd to improve his performance, after winning bronze in the 1,500 meters at the last World Cup in Eugene (Oregon). In return, the Moroccan-origin athlete also thanked the authorities and citizens of Mula for "the love and gratitude" they show him. "I am very proud to be a Muleño," he said.
Lifting a corner of the veil on his immediate personal and sporting projects, Katir indicated that the "first thing" he has planned is to visit his paternal grandparents whom he has not seen "for four years". Regarding his career, he specified that he cannot say anything without first discussing it "with Gabi Lorente, his coach", but assured that he has "completed this season".
