Spanish Real Estate Market Offers Opportunities for Moroccan Expats and Foreign Investors

In Spain, the real estate market will offer great opportunities for Moroccans residing abroad (MRE), Belgians and others. At least, that’s what the latest statistics on the sector indicate.
In 2019, the Spanish real estate market experienced a slowdown in transactions in general throughout Spain: 1.9% in 2019 compared to 2.4% in 2018 and 3.1% in 2017. On the other hand, the housing price index recorded an increase of 7.22%, a little less than expected.
"This is therefore rather good news for new Belgian buyers who will be able to invest in Spain at still reasonable and interesting prices. A perpetually rising situation would not have been sustainable in the long run," explains Dany Lefèvre, the CEO of the Secundo Real Estate agency in Erpent.
Other elements support these explanations. This includes the share of purchases made by foreigners. It stands at 12.45% (12.64% in 2018, down for 3 consecutive years); which represents 63,000 transactions concluded by foreigners, compared to 65,400 a year earlier, including 3,900 by Moroccans.
In addition, the crisis related to the coronavirus should lead to a general decline in real estate worldwide and more particularly in Spain.
