Spanish Prosecutor Appeals Decision in Polisario Leader Entry Case, Seeks Wider Investigation

The public prosecutor’s office is appealing the judge’s decision in charge of the Ghali case to keep the former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Arancha Gonzales Laya, under investigation and not her former chief of staff, Camilo Villarino.
The two personalities have committed crimes of prevarication and concealment, the public prosecutor’s office asserts, requesting the opening of an investigation against Camilo Villarino, suspected of being heavily involved in the entry into Spain of Brahim Ghali, the leader of the Polisario Front, last April. In the appeal request to which La Razón had access, the public prosecutor’s office requests, on this basis, to keep the former chief of staff of Arancha Gonzales Laya under investigation.

The public prosecutor’s office agrees with Judge Lasala that the President of the Government, Pedro Sanchez, is "the true responsible for Ghali’s entry into Spain", because without his "express authorization", neither any member of the government, nor the persons under investigation, would have done what they did.

The prosecution adds that the former minister, Arancha Gonzales Laya, and her chief of staff would have committed a crime of prevarication and concealment by having Ghali and his entourage enter Spanish territory without subjecting them to all the control and inspection rules at the borders of the Schengen regulations. "They knew that Brahim Ghali is in Spain and did not report the information to Judge Pedraz," who was then in charge of the two ongoing genocide and terrorism cases against the Polisario leader, the prosecution insisted, arguing that they acted "deliberately and consciously".
