Spanish Police Dismantle Jihadist Financing Ring in Catalonia, Arrest Three

The police dismantled on Wednesday in Catalonia a criminal organization dedicated to the financing of jihadist terrorism in Libya. Three people, including a Moroccan, were arrested during the operation.
The prosecutor ordered the provisional detention of one of the three individuals arrested for alleged terrorism financing. The other two, of Libyan and Moroccan nationality, were released but remain under judicial supervision. They will have to appear in court every two weeks and are prohibited from leaving the territory.
The group was dismantled in Barcelona, Girona and Valencia, reports La Vanguardia, specifying that this network, dedicated to the financing of terrorism, supported the fighters of the war in Libya. Its members were responsible for finding reputable private clinics in Catalonia to treat the terrorists wounded in combat.

According to the results of the investigation conducted by the police since 2019, the defendants were sending money to Libya through trusted people, thus bypassing the banking system, in order to leave no trace of the large money transfers made. Investigators had discovered that the network was sending money to a Libyan militia linked to the Islamic State.
During the dismantling operation, three houses located in Barcelona and Sant Adriá del Besós, a commercial establishment located in Badalona, two high-end vehicles, many documents, effects and technical media as well as a large sum of money were seized.
